Data protection is something that BASF (herein after referred to as “we” or “us”) takes very seriously. Naturally, this also includes ensuring a high level of transparency. To ensure this transparency, the following document provides information on how we process the personal data of our website visitors (herein after referred to as „Your Personal Data “). Of course, we process personal data only in strict compliance with the applicable laws on the protection of personal data.

We process the following categories of personal data:

(1) When you visit our website without contacting us or signing in, your browser transmits the following information automatically to our server:

For what purposes and on what legal basis is Your Personal Data processed?

We process Your Personal Data in compliance with the provisions of the General EU Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as other relevant laws.

Processing of Your Personal Data serves the following purposes:

(1) When you visit our website, we use your IP address and the other data that your browser transmits automatically to our server (see Section 1 (1) in order to:

  1. a) send the requested content to your browser. In doing so, we store the complete IP address only to the extent necessary to serve the requested content to you.
  1. b) send your IP address to a service provider to map your public IP address with company and industry related information (no personal information). This company- and industry related information will be processed to our web measurement system. In this process step your IP address is not stored at our service provider or in our system at any time.
  1. c) protect us from attacks and to safeguard the proper operation of our website. In doing so, we store said data transiently and with restricted access for a maximum period of 180 days. Such period may be extended if and to the extent necessary to prosecute attacks and incidents.

BASF will investigate the user of an IP address only in case of an illegal attack.

(2) We store the IP address of your computer after having removed the last octet of the IP address, i.e. in anonymous form, for web audience measuring that allows us to improve our website. We remove the last octet of the IP address immediately after collection. That is why we do not collect personal data about your use of our website.

(3) If you contact us by email or by contact form on our website, we use the data under Section 1 (2) to answer and, if possible, to meet your request. We store such data to the extent necessary to answer and meet your request.

(4) If you have given us your consent to do so, we will process your personal data [please specify here the categories of personal data that is processed] to send you the newsletter [please specify] at regular intervals to the e-mail address you have provided.

We will share your personal data with other affiliated companies of the BASF Group if they provide IT services for us or if this is necessary for operational reasons. Furthermore, we will pass on your personal data to the technical IT service providers we use from whom we obtain services. Our IT service providers are carefully selected and regularly checked by us. They process personal data only on our behalf and strictly in accordance with our instructions on the basis of corresponding contracts for order processing.

We store your personal data collected within the scope of your consent for the above-mentioned purposes until your consent is revoked.

The legal basis for the processing of your personal data for the above-mentioned purposes is your consent, Art 6, paragraph 1, lit. a) GDPR.

You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future by notifying us of your revocation under [email protected]. If offered in the newsletter, unsubscribing by the unsubscribe-link will be sufficient as well.

If you revoke your consent, we will delete your personal data immediately, provided that we process them for marketing purposes on the basis of your consent. Please note that the revocation does not result in the deletion of all your personal data which we process in the course of the business relationship with you, if there is another legal basis for this. The revocation of your consent does not affect the legality of the data processing that has taken place up to that point.

(5) If you request technical data sheets, leaflets, case studies, process guidelines or logo & branding guidelines, we process your personal data for the purpose of sending the requested documents to you.

  • Compliance with legal requirements (e.g. compliance with fiscal or commercial retention obligations; preventing money laundering or economic crime)

Resolving disputes and lawsuits, establishing, exercising or defending against legal claims or litigation, enforcing existing contracts

The processing of the above-mentioned data categories is necessary to achieve these purposes.

If not otherwise expressly stipulated, the legal basis for the processing is article 6 Para. 1 lit (b) and (f) EU General Data Protection Regulation.

If we intend to process Your personal data for any other purpose not mentioned above, we will inform You accordingly prior to such processing.

To whom is personal data transmitted?

Within our company, only persons and bodies who need Your Personal Data to fulfill the above-mentioned purposes will receive access to such data.

Within our group of companies, Your Personal Data is provided to specific companies within the group if they centrally perform key tasks for affiliates within the company group or perform cross-company functions on the basis of the organizational structure or if it necessary to fulfill the above-mentioned purposes.

We might transfer Your Personal Data to supervisory authorities, courts or law offices as far as necessary to ensure compliance with applicable law or to exercise, assert or defend legal rights if legally permitted.

We also work with service providers to fulfill the above-mentioned purposes. Those service providers process Your Personal Data in our name and solely according to our instructions. They are contractually obliged to adhere to the applicable data protection regulations.

In some cases, we disclose personal data to service providers or group companies located outside of the European Economic Area (“third-party countries”), in which an adequate data protection level is not guaranteed by applicable laws. In such cases we take suitable measures to safeguard the protection of the personal data of Your Personal Data and to ensure an adequate level of data protection.
