The Barcelona-based Girbau Group is specialized in manufacturing equipment for laundry services. Looking into ways how to increase the efficiency of their folding machines, the collaboration with our 3D printing service provider Sculpteo was initiated – Sculpteo is offering not only a printing service but also accompanying many customers within the idea process, creating the perfect 3D model and printing process.
For Girbau, it was, on the one hand, essential to not only redesign a part of the folding machine but also be cost-effective when doing so. And on the other hand, they needed a material strong enough to create small cavities within the part that could withstand the high pressure.
So, the perfect material was essential to making the vision of the company a reality. Starting with AM, Girbau Group first tested a powder material – however, after printing a prototype and using it for testing, it was discovered that excess powder blocked the airflow of the folding machine. To fix this challenge, they switched to the high-performance photopolymer Ultracur3D® EPD 1006. This resin is part of the Engineering Plastic Daylight (EPD) photopolymer product line, powered by Photocentric.
Ultracur3D® EPD 1006 and all materials from the Daylight range are specifically tailored to the requirements of the unique Photocentric LC Magna printer and have been developed together by experts at Photocentric and Forward AM. The Photocentric LC Magna is an LCD printer that offers an impressive build volume of 510 x 280 x 350 mm as well as the ability to print 16mm per hour, allowing quantities of parts to be printed quickly and consistently.
